Fall is when romantasy shows off. Between the sixth ACOTAR, a return to the Fourth Wing world, and a whole stack of series finales, my preorder list has gotten genuinely out of hand, and I mean that as the highest compliment. Here's what I'm counting down to this season, sorted by month, plus a few that already landed in case you need something to read this weekend.

The Knave and the Moon by Rachel Gillig
September 1
A moody gothic romantasy closing out Gillig's Stonewater Kingdom duet, with a morally grey knave, a moon-touched heroine, and a kingdom full of secrets and prophecy. The Mirror of Infinite Endings by Stephanie Garber
September 22
New fairytale-tinged romantasy from the author of Caraval and Once Upon a Broken Heart, which is really all I need to say to the people already clutching their hearts. Expect whimsy with teeth and a bargain you'll regret rooting for.
Threshing Day by Rebecca Yarros
September 29
A return to the Fourth Wing world, this time a collection of stories from across the Empyrean series. It's not the next mainline book, but it's the dragons-and-Basgiath fix to hold us over, and the Fourth Wing crowd already knows this is a preorder-on-sight. Want to start from the beginning? With Hearts of Flame by Briar Boleyn
October 20
The final book in the Bloodwing Academy series, the dragon-rider dark academia that gets pitched as Fourth Wing meets Zodiac Academy. This is the one I'm personally most feral for, with the deluxe edition already pre-ordered for my shelf. New to it? Start with On Wings of Blood.
A Court of Splintered Harmony by Sarah J. Maas
October 27
The sixth ACOTAR, and almost certainly the single most anticipated romantasy release of the whole year. You already know if you're in line for this one. I'll keep it spoiler-safe, but I make no promises about the rest of the internet on October 27. Not already part of the ACOTAR fandom? The Wrath Gods Reap by Abigail Owen
November 17
The finale of the Crucible trilogy, Owen's modern Greek-gods romantasy that reads like Percy Jackson for grown-ups crossed with The Hunger Games, mortal champion and the god of the underworld included. The gods have had two books to make it worse. November is the reckoning. Be sure to start with book one of this series, if you haven’t already: The Games Gods Play.
The Fall of the Crowned King by Amber V. Nicole
November 24
The final book in the Gods & Monsters series, the dark, godly, enemies-to-lovers saga I'm two books deep into myself. It's bringing a whole world home. If you're new, start at The Book of Azrael.
Fallen Rook by L.J. Shen
September 22
Now, this one may not be romantasy, but I would be remiss not to mention it: Fallen Rook by L.J. Shen lands September 22. It's a dark romance, so not officially on this list, but I refuse to pretend I'm not counting down to the next Society of Villains book. If you've been in the dark romance trenches with me, you get it. If you’d like to join the dark romance side with the Lunaria Society, start with book 1: Bad Bishop.

The preorder list is long, so here are a few that just released and are ready right now. Full disclosure: these are all sitting on my own shelf waiting for me, so I'm recommending them on premise and vibe, not a finished read.
Adversary to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer
Book four in the Assistant to the Villain series, the witty, found-family, workplace-comedy romantasy about being a dangerously competent employee to an actual villain. This is the one I'm reading right now, and it's our current Lunaria Society pick, so if grumpy-sunshine banter is your thing, come read along. New here? Start at Assistant to the Villain.
The Lion & the Deathless Dark by Carissa Broadbent
The newest Crowns of Nyaxia book and the opening of a fresh duet in that vampires-and-gods world, following a bounty hunter who strikes a deal with a silver-tongued vampire prince to go hunting gods. Apocalyptic, enemies to lovers, and exactly the blood-soaked stakes Broadbent is known for. While this is the first book of the Bloodborn Duet and can be read as a standalone, it is part of the larger Crowns of Nyaxia series, which starts with: The Serpent & the Wings of Night.
Bedeviled by Laura Thalassa
The finale of the Bewitched series, a witchy dark romantasy of fated mates, a witch and her sorcerer king, and a love that has already outlasted a couple thousand years. If you're mid-series, your ending is here. If you're not, there's a whole spellbound world to fall into first; start with: Bewitched.
The Dark in Her Veins by M.K. Lobb
A noir romantasy set in a world where sin is a literal, fatal disease and the wealthy pay the poor to carry their violence for them. It follows an assassin who gets dangerously tangled with the shadowy target she's supposed to kill. Assassin and target, morally grey, forbidden - the exact recipe that ends up on my shelf.
